Waterloo Spring Clean

in November , NSW Land and Housing Corporation joined forces with Fire and Rescue NSW, Counterpoint Community Services INC , NSW Department of Communities and Justice and NSW Health to help tenants in the Waterloo South social housing estate declutter and stay safe this holiday season.

Our community engagement activities try to connect with people in ways that make them feel safe, supported and empowered to contribute. ❤

Over 2 days our teams:

🚮 Helped tenants declutter and dispose of bulky items with a free removalist and skip bin service
🚪 Door knocked tenants to offer free disposals and smoke alarm safety checks
✔ Assessed passageways and corridors in homes and common property areas, to ensure safe and clear access in the event of a fire.

Our Waterloo ‘spring clean’ also gave people the opportunity to socialise with neighbours over a BBQ lunch, and chat with experts about fire safety.

It was rewarding to hear positive feedback from tenants about how these activities helped combat isolation, foster a sense of community and enabled them to get rid of unwanted items.
