The Waterloo Collaborative is focused only on the existing issues facing public housing tenants when accessing services and supports. It is not examining the need for human services associated with the redevelopment process and service delivery to social housing tenants after the redevelopment.
The Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) is coordinating its own planning for human service supports during relocations and redevelopment as part of its redevelopment planning. It brings these elements together in a “People and Place” framework as shown in the page illustration. LAHC has held some consultations with services to inform its tender process for the procurement of a development consortium.
While LAHC briefs the Collaborative on the redevelopment, decisions relating to its human service elements are not under the review of the Collaborative and runs on a very different basis.
As the redevelopment will take place potentially over 30 years in stages, the Collaborative’s work on current service issues is likely to be relevant to tenants for quite sometime to come. Hopefully it also informs LAHC’s own human services planning.
LAHC is a member of the Waterloo Human Services Collaborative and funds the Department of Communities and Justice to provide the secretariat for the Collaborative.
