Over several years Groundswell NGOs have been separately working with Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) to address some health related issues of concern to tenants and agencies. This has seen the appointment of a health navigator / link worker appointed by SLHD in Redfern Waterloo to help tenants better navigate the heath system and to feed back to SLHD tenant concerns about service access. SLHD has also undertaken a Health Impact Assessment which focused on the health impacts of the redevelopment announcement in 2015 on Waterloo tenants.
SLHD held two Waterloo Health Forums in September 2017 and May 2018 to develop strategies for improving the health and wellbeing of the residents of Waterloo and this has inform its input into the Collaborative and the SLHD Addendum.
Representing Groundswell, Counterpoint Community Services, Inner Sydney Voice and REDWatch co-sponsored the Waterloo Health Forums with SLHD. Groundswell representatives meet regularly with SLHD staff to discuss issues of mutual concern. The SLHD Addendum reflects the commitment of SLHD to address the issues raised in the Collaborative and in the meetings with Groundswell agencies.
This addendum changes over time as new issues are added, issues unpacked and implemented, initiatives are completed or become business as usual.
